The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) are India’s top public business schools, known for delivering world-class management education and shaping future leaders. With their rigorous academic programs, case-based learning approach, and strong focus on practical applications, the IIMs have earned global recognition as premier business schools.
On August 19, 2025, the Lok Sabha passed the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, officially approving the establishment of a new IIM in Guwahati, Assam. With this, IIM Guwahati is set to become the 22nd IIM in India, further strengthening the country’s management education ecosystem.

As of 2025, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) collectively offer more than 7,500 seats, nearly three times the capacity they had a decade ago. IIM Mumbai and IIM Guwahati are the most recent additions to this prestigious network.
The IIMs are often categorized into three groups — Old IIMs, New IIMs, and Baby IIMs — representing the first, second, and third generations of these institutes.
Each IIM offers an MBA program or equivalent postgraduate management program IIM PGP Program, with admissions primarily based on the CAT exam. Spread across different parts of the country, the IIMs have become a cornerstone of management education in India, consistently nurturing skilled professionals and future leaders.
